Have you ever wanted to be a household pet, a philosophical concept, a serial killer, a movie star or a man-eating plant? Well then, improvisational theatre is just the thing for you!
Improv is quite different from regular theatre, because it is all about the unexpected, intuition and spontaneity. It allows you to let your imagination run wild and to give free rein to your creativity, within the bounds of a few ground rules and more or less detailed instructions. One of the guiding principles is that a particular improvisation can never be reproduced. It is a one-off experience, limited to a specific moment in time. Improv is performed without sets or costumes. You create everything, starting with a blank stage.
Improv began as a BGS activity in 2014. Since January 2017, a new beginners’ team has been active: les Saucekipiks. It is made up mostly of beginners, with a few more experienced members. The Saucekipiks would be happy to welcome enthusiastic and/or curious new members for the new season beginning in September 2023.
Since September 2021, BGS has launched a new team for Dutch speaking people with a maximum number of 16 participants.
How does it work?
Each week you take part in three-hour evening sessions led by different coaches. The coaches rotate every six to twelve weeks, so actors benefit from a variety of approaches. Skills trained: space management, concentration, listening to your partner, acting techniques, body language and verbal communication, team spirit, as well as learning to let loose, etc.
The team is mixed. The working language is French or Dutch. Everyone is welcome, but proficiency in French or Dutch is vital.
Interested?
Even if you have little or no improv experience, give it a shot. The first time is free. The environment is welcoming and relaxed. And fun is the name of the game.
